NO ZEROES FOR HEROES - ACTIVE OR RETIRED

June 15, 1999 - New York City. A Bill designed to guarantee the rights for retired Transit and Housing Retirees has passed the New York State Senate. Mike Spadafore and Ed Ranieri of the Transit retirees Association took the bill to the City Council in 1998. In 1998 against the opposition of the City of New York a home rule message was sent to Albany. However the Bill died in 1998.

1999 Sent President Spadafore and Chairman Ranieri to the City Council yet again for a home rule message, supporting the bill. Again, against the City of New York head negotiator, Bill Hanleys' wishes, Ranieri and Spadafore again won for their members the controversial bill that will guarantee the benefits of retired Transit and Housing retirees.

Joining the transit leaders at the City Council was Russomono - of AARP, Rick Carrubba of the Columbia Retirees Association, as well as Mike Lubrano and Ronald Fasano of the National Association of Retired Housing Police Officers.

When we reached him for confirmation Mr. Ranieri and Mr. Spadafore were both showing enthusiasm and will be continuing efforts in the Assembly.

On the negative side we must report that while many claim responsibility for the bill Mr. Spadafore, Mr. Ranieri and Mr. Russomono are the only individuals who have stood behind this bill. This was evident by those who were present at the City Council and Albany over the last two weeks.
